GST Delay Row: A recent social media post claimed delays and corruption in the GST registration process. In response, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) issued a statement to clarify the facts and refute these allegations.
The issue started when a person posted on LinkedIn saying he had applied for GST registration 20 days ago but had not received any update. Another user shared this post on X (formerly Twitter), alleging corruption in the system. This quickly drew attention online.
CBIC responded on X, stating that the GST application was actually submitted only on May 26, 2025, and was assigned to Delhi State GST authorities. The Central GST department had no role in the matter.
According to the CBIC, the Delhi GST office reviewed the application promptly. However, they needed clarification about the person who signed the rent agreement for the company. Specifically, the officer’s designation was missing. CBIC clarified that it held the application only due to the pending information and had already informed the applicant.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman shared the CBIC’s post and praised the department’s efforts to serve taxpayers with transparency and integrity. She said, “It is our duty to serve taxpayers, and in doing so, maintaining trust and honesty is very important.”
CBIC also advised the public not to spread incorrect or half-known information on social media, especially about sensitive processes like GST registration.
This clarification from both the Finance Minister and the CBIC highlights the government’s commitment to a transparent and accountable tax system and also encourages people to verify facts before sharing them online.
