Supplements can be beneficial for health, however, supplements that are taken without overseer from a physician or other medical professional may result in serious side effects. Certain nutrients can be overdosed with very little symptoms of overdose; however, overdosing on these nutrients can result in toxicity (overload) and interactions with medications. The following list are 5 supplements that should not be taken, unless advised by a doctor.

1. Iron

2. Vitamin D

It is best to check your Vitamin D levels before starting any supplementation.

3. Vitamin B12 
Vitamin B12 is a supplement that is taken by people who are seeking a boost of energy or are hoping to improve brain function.  Conversely, use of formulaic B12 that is unnecessary for another person routine can conceal other deficiencies. Such as folate deficiency and could possibly mislead the doctor from the full picture of what is going on with their health.

4. Calcium
Calcium is an essential mineral for bone health, but too much can lead to kidney stones as well as contribute to plaque formation in arteries. A healthcare provider can also tell you you if your level of ingestion warrants supplementation.

5. Biotin
Biotin is a supplement that many people take to help their hair, skin, and nails. But taking it in high doses can have negative consequences for your health, especially if it interferes with your thyroid function, heart markers. And it leads lab testing to misdiagnosis.
