Wajahat Khan missing case:
A serious twist has emerged in the case involving social media influencer and law student Sharmistha Panoli. The man who filed a police complaint against her, Wajahat Khan, is reportedly missing. His father, Saadat Khan, claimed in an interview with Aaj Tak that Wajahat has not been seen since Sunday night.
Wajahat Khan’s complaint led to Sharmistha Panoli’s arrest in Gurugram on May 30. She was accused of using abusive and communal language in a video criticizing some Muslim Bollywood stars for not speaking up on Operation Sindoor. The video went viral, causing public outrage and political reactions. BJP leaders demanded her release, while others supported the police action.
Soon after Panoli’s arrest, Wajahat reportedly began receiving threatening phone calls. His father said the family is under stress. “My son is innocent. He respects all religions. Maybe someone hacked his account. We are getting threats daily,” said Saadat Khan.
Meanwhile, a counter-complaint has been filed against Wajahat Khan by a group named Shree Ram Swabhiman Parishad. They accuse him of posting insulting remarks about Hindus on social media, including the use of inappropriate and vulgar language targeting Hindu gods, temples, and traditions. The group has requested police to register a case under serious sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and IT Act.
A case has already been registered in Assam against Khan. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, stated that a police team will coordinate with West Bengal authorities to find and question him.
Sharmistha Panoli, on the other hand, has deleted the controversial video and issued a public apology. However, she remains in 14-day judicial custody. The police clarified that hate speech cannot be protected as free speech.
This case has taken a complicated turn, with both parties now facing serious allegations and public attention.
