Overwhelmed and terrified, Saifi screamed for help. Hearing his cries, villagers rushed to the spot and were stunned to witness dozens of snakes slithering in and around the house. Acting on impulse and fear, the locals began attacking the reptiles with sticks, stones, and anything else they could find. In the ensuing chaos, around 50 snakes were killed while the remaining managed to escape. The dead snakes were later buried in a pit.

pic.twitter.com/PSUVD1J4yt

The viral footage also caught the attention of forest officials. Meerut Forest Divisional Officer Rajesh Kumar confirmed that the snakes found in the house were non-venomous and protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. He stated that those killed by villagers also belonged to non-venomous species. An investigation is currently underway to understand how and why so many snakes appeared at once.
The incident has sparked a broader conversation about human-wildlife conflict and the importance of awareness regarding protected species—even those that appear threatening.
