The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), having just won their first IPL championship, faced serious legal challenges following their victory parade held on June 4, 2025. What was supposed to be a joyous celebration resulted in tragedy and a stampede which has resulted in multiple cases against RCB and the event organizers. On June 4, 2025 RCB held the victory parade at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. It was RCB’s first Ever IPL Title. Unfortunately the event unfolded as follows:
The stadium has a capacity of 35,000. There were over 2.5 lakh fans at the stadium.
These 2.5 lakh fans overflowed from the stadium to the nearby street.
There were reports that the parade was an open event for the public.
Despite having over 1,000 police personnel available, there were none to control the crowd.
The stampede and crowds’ mismanagement resulted in 11 people dying, and over 75 patients were admitted to area hospitals.
Legal Cases Against RCB
The first FIR, was lodged at the Cubbon Park Police Station listing RCB, the event organizers, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) as the principal parties to blame for the stampede.
The second FIR, named RCB’s Head of Marketing and Revenue Collecting, Nikhil Sosale, who was arrested and now is in judicial custody.
The third FIR was filed by the family of one of victims that compounded the fault against RCB, their event organizers, and medical staff for allegedly causing or contributing entirely to the stampede.
RCB’s Response & Compensation Efforts
Following the tragedy, RCB has:
Announced ₹10 lakh compensation for each victim’s family.
Established an “RCB Cares” fund for adjusting fans’ support.
Issued a statement of grief, which also displayed empathy and support for families affected.
What’s Next? Legal & Government Action
The Karnataka High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter, and asked for a status report.
One member inquiry commission lead by Justice John Michael D’Cunha has been established.
The next hearing in court is scheduled for June 10, where other legal action will be decided.

RCB’s historic IPL win has been tarnished with a storm of legal trouble, following the Bengaluru stampede.
