Indian Govt Suggests This Smart AC Hack to Lower Electricity Bills

Indian Govt Suggests This Smart AC Hack to Lower Electricity Bills

AC electricity bill saving:

In summer, many people use air conditioners (ACs) day and night. This increases electricity bills in almost every home. To reduce this burden, the Indian government has shared an important suggestion for all AC users.

AC electricity bill saving:

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has advised that users should increase the AC temperature setting by just 1°C to save up to 6% electricity. For example, if someone normally keeps the AC at 20°C, they can try 24°C or 25°C, which is still comfortable and energy-efficient.

Why this works:

When ACs run at lower temperatures like 20°C, they consume more power because the compressor runs longer. But if you set the temperature higher (like 26°C), the room cools faster and the compressor shuts off sooner, saving energy.

According to BEE, if just 50% of AC users in India follow this tip, the country can save nearly 10 billion units of electricity every year. This also means saving about ₹5,000 crore and reducing 8.2 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions.

Change Factory Settings:

BEE also mentioned that users can change the default factory temperature setting on their ACs. Most ACs are set to 20–21°C by default. By switching to 24–25°C, you can make a big difference in your electricity bill.

This small step not only helps you save money but also helps the environment and supports India’s energy-saving goals.

So, next time you turn on your AC, remember to set it a few degrees higher. Your comfort won’t change much, but your electricity bill definitely will.
