India is experiencing a new wave of Covid-19 cases, Latest Covid-19 Update with active cases exceeding 6,000 and six deaths in the last 24 hours. The health authorities are keeping a close watch as the influx of new Omicron sub-variants drives the wave of infection.
There are 6,133 active Covid-19 infections in India, 769 within the past two days. Kerala has the highest incidence, with Gujarat, West Bengal, and Delhi following.

The Covid-19 Variants responsible for the Increase
The new rise is due to fresh Omicron sub-variants, JN.1, NB.1.8.1, LF.7, and XFC. The virus is very contagious, however for the majority it presents mild symptoms.
Government Action and Precautions
The central government holds mock exercises to assess the readiness of hospitals for anticipated surge. Health Authorities has instructed states to have oxygen supply, isolation beds, ventilators, and basic drugs.
There have been six deaths in the last 24 hours with Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu reporting the deaths. Diabetes, coronary illness, and kidney disease were some of the prevalent pre-existing health conditions of the majority of the deceased.
Government is enhancing ILI and SARI for surveillance. SARI positive samples are being analyzed on Whole Genome Sequencing basis to monitor virus mutation.
