Most Awaited South Indian Movies 2025:
The year 2025 has already been exciting for South Indian cinema, with major box office hits in the first half. Films like Empuraan and Thudarum, led by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, earned over ₹250 crore each. Telugu star Venkatesh surprised everyone with Sankranthiki Vasthunam, and Nani continued his success streak with Hit 3. Tamil actor Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly also did well, collecting ₹242 crore. Meanwhile, Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon became a blockbuster and impressed audiences.
Despite these hits, many big movies like Vidaamuyarchi, Game Changer, Thug Life, and Retro couldn’t meet expectations. However, the second half of 2025 looks brighter with several exciting releases lined up. Here’s a list of five South Indian movies that fans are eagerly waiting for.
Starring the legendary Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie is among the most talked-about films of 2025. Set to release on Independence Day, this high-energy action drama brings together two powerhouses of Tamil cinema. Fans expect this film to be a box office storm.
After the massive success of Kantara, Rishab Shetty returns with Kantara Chapter 1. The sequel is generating a lot of buzz, especially because of its unique blend of folklore and action. Scheduled for an October release, this Kannada movie is set to raise the bar once again.
Prabhas, fresh off the success of Kalki 2898 AD, is back with a completely different film. The Raja Saab is a romantic horror-comedy directed by Maruti. Releasing in December, this film promises to show a lighter and more entertaining side of the pan-India superstar.
Pawan Kalyan, a fan-favorite in Telugu cinema, is set to play a powerful gangster in They Call Him OG. Following the release of Hari Hara Veera Mallu, this film is expected to showcase a new dimension of his acting. The intense teasers have already made this film a top anticipation pick.
After the roaring success of Akhanda, Balakrishna is back with Akhanda 2. Known for its high-voltage action and spiritual elements, the sequel has already captured attention with its teaser. Scheduled for a September release, this film is expected to be another crowd-puller at the box office.
