“Will Marry Him!” – Sonam’s Bold Stand:
According to Vipin, Sonam had informed her mother about her relationship with Raj. She insisted she didn’t want to marry Raja. However, one account suggests that her mother disapproved of the relationship and pressured her to marry within their community. Vipin said that Sonam eventually agreed to compromise and marry Raja, despite warnings about the consequences. She reportedly told her mother, “You’ll see what I do to that person. You all will have to face the fallout.” The insider added, “No one believed she would kill Raja.”
These details, allegedly drawn from Vipin’s statement to police, surfaced as the country reeled from the shocking murder of Raja, a crime reportedly carried out by Sonam, Raj, and three of his associates. At the time of the incident, Sonam and Raja were honeymooning in Meghalaya. Initially, police registered the matter as a “missing couple” case after the pair vanished in the northeastern state. However, the investigation took a dark turn, revealing a disturbing betrayal. Authorities later identified Raj as the mastermind behind the murder.
Drama Unfolds Before Sonam’s Wedding:
Vipin claimed that after committing the murder, Sonam and Raj stayed in a hotel room. Raj later sent her back to their hometown, and she spent two days in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Sonam and Raja, both residents of Indore, got married on May 11. She was 24, and he was 29. Police said the marriage went ahead despite Sonam’s ongoing relationship with Raj, who worked as an accountant in her family’s furniture sheet business. Sonam managed the family business herself.

Honeymoon Trip to Meghalaya:
After marrying in Indore, Raja and Sonam began their honeymoon in Meghalaya. On May 23, they vanished just hours after they left a homestay in Nongriat village, about 20 kilometers from where police later found Raja’s body on June 2. Investigators said Sonam murdered Raja and fled. They believe she planned the killing to reunite with her boyfriend and hired contract killers to eliminate her husband. On Sunday evening, Sonam walked into the Nandganj police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and surrendered. Just hours earlier, police arrested Anand Kurmi, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Akash Rajput, residents of Uttar Pradesh and the Madhya Pradesh towns of Indore and Sagar. Investigators later arrested Raj, Sonam’s boyfriend, and identified him as the mastermind behind the murder plot.
Police sources said Sonam paid the killers ₹20 lakh to carry out the crime, though officials have not released a formal confirmation. According to early reports, the hired killers met the couple in Bengaluru before their connecting flight to the northeast, indicating that Sonam and her accomplices had set the plan in motion well before reaching Meghalaya. What started as a missing persons case has now unfolded into a chilling story of betrayal and premeditated murder, rattling the nation with its calculated execution and emotional complexity.
