IRCTC Update: Currently, passengers especially wait-listed passengers wait until a few hours before departure time to know whether their booking status has changed and whether they will have a confirmed ticket or not. This brings confusion for the passenger and last-minute stress to the travel planning process for people. By providing a confirmed ticket chart the day before, the passenger will be able to.
Make alternative travel plans if their ticket status has not changed and remains unconfirmed.
Not have to do a last-minute rush at the railway station.
Be less reliant on travel agents for last-minute bookings.
Where Is This Pilot Test Taking Place?
The pilot test for changed ticket charting started as of June 6, 2025, from the Bikaner Division of Western Railway. The Railway Board will conduct a feasibility study based on the pilot test and if the pilot is successful will then carry out the project in the remaining Divisions across India.
How Will This Be Beneficial to Passengers?
Travelers now have time to:
Confirm their travel without the last-minute stress of uncertainty.
Re-book or cancel their tickets with the additional flexibility.
Arrange for their boarding at intermediate stations. This can be beneficial depending on the premium food-stops of some trains.
Will this have an impact on Tatkal and on-the-spot bookings?
No, the Tatkal ticketing system will stay the same. That said, IRCTC has put limits in place for Tatkal Bookings. The e-verification for Tatkal bookings will be done through Aadhaar (fingerprint), to ensure proper booking is done and minimize abuse.
The Railway Board will collect feedback from passengers and check operations to see what is feasible, and then make a decision on implementation. Should this work, this could change railway planning across India!
