PM Modi Visits Ahmedabad Crash Site of Air India: Following the devastating crash of Air India flight AI171, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a somber visit to the crash site at Ahmedabad. The gory incident, which had taken place just minutes after the flight took off on June 12, 2025, claimed the lives of 241 individuals out of the 242 passengers on board.
Prime Minister Modi reached Ahmedabad this morning early and went to the crash site, accompanied by senior officials and rescue teams. He wore somber clothes and paid floral tributes to the victims. He then held his breath for a moment in silence. The plane was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner headed to London Gatwick, which crashed barely minutes after takeoff.
The Prime Minister was informed by aviation officials and emergency responders regarding the rescue efforts and ongoing investigation. The black box has been recovered, and initial reports are being examined by aviation officials.
After visiting his site, PM Modi went to the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, where the sole survivor of the crash, a British citizen of Indian origin, is undergoing medical care. The Prime Minister had some time with the survivor and delivered warm condolences. Physicians have confirmed the survivor to be in stable health but under close observation.

Talking to the media during the visit to the hospital, Modi had declared, “This is a national tragedy. My deepest sympathies are with the families of those who perished. The government is dedicated to giving all help to the bereaved families. We are also making sure that the best possible medical care is being given to the survivor.”
A senior panel has been established to oversee the investigation, and Air India has set up helplines and caregiver teams to assist families.
The accident has caused shock across the country, and condolences are being sent from world leaders. Flags in all of India are at half-mast, and a national day of mourning has been declared.
This unfortunate incident has raised fresh issues with air safety and added new urgency to an inquiry into emergency preparedness across the industry.
