Flaps’ Position and Lift Issue

One expert, John M. Cox, suggested the flaps may not have been in the correct position during takeoff. Flaps help provide lift to keep a plane in the air, especially at low speeds. “Looking at the video footage, it seems the plane was struggling to produce enough lift while it was trying to reach higher altitude,” he said.

Possible Bird Strike or Loss of Power

Some say a bird strike might have disabled both engines at once — a rare event — causing a dramatic drop in power. Former pilot Saurabh Bhatnagar explained that when birds collide with a plane, it can affect its engines. However, many experts, including Sam Thomas, President of the Airline Pilots Association of India, say this scenario is less likely.

Landing Gear Was Still Down

Another unusual observation was that the landing gear remained down after takeoff. According to former Air India pilot Capt Manoj Hathi, this may be a sign that there was a serious technical problem, and the crew chose not to retract the landing gear in case of a potential emergency.

Dual Engine Failure — A Rare Scenario

Some experts say a complete failure of both engines is extremely rare — something that’s been documented just a few times in many decades of commercial flight. “While we do see cases of engine failure, losing both at the same moment is extremely improbable, especially due to a bird strike in a short period of time,” a former pilot explained.

While the investigation is ongoing, a definitive cause of the tragedy is yet to be determined. The government, regulators, and expert teams are currently collecting data to piece together the events that led to the incident.
