The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made a big announcement that brings huge relief to its members. Currently, EPFO automatically settles withdrawal requests up to ₹1 lakh if applicants meet all conditions. These cases include health issues, education, marriage, or home repairs. Now, EPFO is increasing this limit to ₹5 lakh.

EPFO officials said this new policy will help people get their funds faster. Between April 1, 2025, and June 5, 2025, EPFO settled nearly 6.9 million (or 68.96 Lakh) withdrawal requests within just 3 days of filing. This means officials processed almost 50% of the total requests quickly.

The new automated settlement process will enable faster payments and ease financial stress for many workers. Currently, nearly 39% of total EPFO settlements — about 2.34 crore — are already processed within 3 days. The new policy is expected to increase this number further.

Usually, EPFO’s highest decision-making body, the Central Board of Trustees, must approve many policy decisions. But in this case, the EPFO’s Central Provident Fund Commissioner can directly enable this change. This makes the process much faster and more convenient for account holders.

Workers, companies, and unions are all represented in the EPFO’s board. The Union Minister of Labor and Employment normally oversees the board’s decisions. The new policy, however, lets EPFO move forward without needing additional approval.

This automated process applies to many cases, whether related to pension payments, group insurance, or Provident Fund withdrawals. People can make all the payments within 72 hours of filing, ensuring financial aid reaches them faster and without delay.

EPFO currently serves over 7 Crore members who contribute toward their Provident Fund. This policy change shows the EPFO’s aim to make its services more convenient and helpful for its members in difficult financial situations.
