Downloadable Canvas: Last week, OpenAI expanded ChatGPT’s Canvas and Projects features. Users can now download the content of a Canvas in a variety of file formats from the San Francisco-based artificial intelligence (AI) company. Users will also be able to export code they write in Canvas in the appropriate file type. The business is also extending its Projects feature. Which now includes voice mode, deep research, and other features. Furthermore, users of the iOS and Android ChatGPT mobile app will at last be able to submit files and modify the AI model while working on a project.
ChatGPT’s Multiple Features:
OpenAI’s official handle announced via a post on X (formerly Twitter) that users can now download content created using ChatGPT’s Canvas feature. Originally introduced as a preview in October 2024, Canvas became available to all users in December 2024. This sandbox-style pop-up window inside the chatbot allows users to make inline changes, apply formatting, and edit both text and code.
Now, with this latest update, OpenAI has added flexible download options. Users can export their work as Markdown (.md), Microsoft Word (.docx), or PDF files. Additionally, for code-related tasks, the platform supports file exports in relevant formats such as .py for Python, .js for JavaScript, and .sql for SQL.
Furthermore, OpenAI has ensured that Canvas is accessible across devices, including desktop, mobile, and the ChatGPT website, making the feature more convenient and widely usable for all types of users.

ChatGPT’s Subscription Model:
OpenAI is expanding the capabilities of Projects, a feature that allows users to create chat folders where the AI remembers uploaded files, custom instructions, and prior conversations. Currently, only paying platform users can access this tool. In a separate announcement, the company outlined several upcoming features for Projects. Notably, users will soon be able to issue complex, multi-step queries that utilize public web sources, enabling powerful, in-depth research. Furthermore, Projects will support ChatGPT’s voice mode, offering a more hands-free experience.
Additionally, OpenAI plans to let users share entire conversation folders via a unique URL, making collaboration easier. To ensure contextual accuracy, ChatGPT within Projects will also leverage its enhanced memory to reference earlier conversations within the same project. Moreover, users can soon drag any chat into a project folder or convert existing conversations using the sidebar menu, adding flexibility in organizing work. Finally, those using the ChatGPT mobile app will be able to upload files and seamlessly switch between AI models while working within a project. However, users must update to the latest version of the app to access these new functionalities.
