June 2025 Tragedies in India So Far: June 2025 has been possibly the most sorrowful month for recent Indian history, with disastrous accidents in air travel, railways, public spaces, and even inside the home. They are a poignant reminder of the need for greater safety, infrastructure, and social awareness.
In a horrific air crash tragedy, an Air India aircraft en route to London had crashed immediately after taking off from Ahmedabad. The aircraft had 242 passengers and crew members on board which crashed into the medical college hostel and this triggered a fire that spread in a matter of minutes. One is said to have survived. Vijay Rupani, who was the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, also lost his life. Emergency personnel acted quickly, but the death toll, including within the hostel, exceeded 275. Inquiries are ongoing to determine whether technical malfunction or weather conditions were the cause.
What was to be a triumph celebration went awry as thousands gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s triumph in the IPL. A stampede occurred because the crowd was not well managed, and at least eight were murdered. Some others were wounded. The government is accused of being unprepared and not being able to hold the situation in hand.

A Delhi-Ghaziabad local train derailed at Shivaji Bridge. Although there was no casualty, passengers were traumatized.
A number of domestic homicide cases stunned neighborhoods this month:
In Andhra Pradesh, a subnormal male was killed by his injuries after repeatedly being beaten up by his wife. In Maharashtra, a woman confessed to having killed her violent husband and attempted to hide the body. She had initially reported that he had taken his life.
The situations point to the need for swift intervention in domestic abuse and greater availability of treatment for mental illness.
