TTD Introduces UPI-Enabled Kiosks: As part of its effort to enhance pilgrim convenience, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) introduced UPI-kiosks through which users will be able to make faster and contactless payments for the globally renowned Tirupati laddus. This is hoped to reduce long queues, reduce handling of money, and hasten the overall process of laddu distribution, especially during festivals.
The newly opened kiosks also can pay with popular UPI apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and BHIM. The pilgrims just have to scan a quick response code at the kiosk, online payment, and receive the receipt to carry away laddu. The initiative demonstrates TTD joining India’s overall Digital India agenda, promoting cashless and smooth transactions in public areas and at religious affairs.
The process is easy to follow:
Pilgrims visit the kiosk and choose the quantity of laddus they want to buy.
The printer outputs a QR code.
Pilgrims use their UPI app to scan the code, pay, and get a token or printed slip.
The slip is then shown at the laddu counters for convenient pick-up.
Since there are so many pilgrims visiting Tirumala daily, managing time and crowd is a major priority. With fast digital transactions, the TTD aims to minimize crowding at laddu counters and allow the pilgrims to have a serene darshan and prasadham experience.
Most of the devotees have taken the digital shift in their stride. TTD volunteers at counters are assisting senior pilgrims and new UPI users through the process. Early reports have been that the transaction has been easier and faster, particularly on weekends and festival seasons.
The TTD will also introduce additional kiosks with the UPI facility and, in time to come, other facilities such as accommodation booking and darshan token distribution. It is a massive leap in the pilgrim facility modernization of one of the world’s most visited religious places.
