Rajinikanth’s Coolie: With his upcoming film Coolie, Rajinikanth aims for a grand release. The 70-year-old Tamil icon will take on an action-packed role in the Lokesh Kanagaraj-directed film, which is set to hit theaters on August 14. Ahead of the release, the producers have reportedly locked a major theatrical rights deal in the Telugu-speaking states.
Rajinikanth’s Coolie Telugu Rights:
Internal sources report that Coolie has generated strong interest not only in Tamil Nadu but also in several major Telugu-speaking states. Riding on the massive buzz around the Rajinikanth-starrer, the producers have actively pursued and secured a major theatrical rights deal in these regions. Distributors Asian Suniel Narang, Suresh Babu, and producer Dil Raju have acquired the Telugu theatrical rights for an impressive ₹45 crore. Although they haven’t finalized the deal yet, industry insiders expect it to become one of the costliest contracts ever signed for a Tamil film in the Telugu market.

Coolie’s title in its Hindi version?
In addition to its Tamil original, Coolie will hit theaters in several other languages. To cater to audiences across regions, especially in Northern India, the film will also release in Hindi. Red FM India recently unveiled the Hindi title poster, revealing the new name as Majadoor. However, the makers have yet to issue an official confirmation regarding the Hindi version.
Rajinikanth & Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Salary:
According to media reports, the makers of Coolie spent a massive ₹350 crore on the film, which includes the individual paychecks of Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj. An insider revealed that Rajinikanth received an upfront salary of ₹150 crore, making it one of the highest payouts ever for an actor. In comparison, the producers paid Lokesh ₹50 crore, setting a new benchmark for directors. For those unaware, Coolie is set to clash with War 2 at the box office, as both big-budget films are scheduled to release on the same day.
