Esha Gupta has never been afraid to voice her opinions. In a recent interview, she did just that, accepting the stereotypical designation of a “sex symbol” in Bollywood. Known for her gorgeous beauty and fearless on-screen persona, the actress opened up about the uncertainties, preconceptions, and pressures she has faced in the industry. From lost opportunities and unsolicited advice to embracing her natural appeal, Esha’s reflections offer a candid and raw look at the price of perception in showbiz.
The conversation took a startling turn when host Siddharth Kannan asked Esha about people who tried to undermine her in the industry. Esha revealed that the agency she hoped would represent her backed out. Reportedly, a “director-producer” pressured them because he wanted to launch another well-known actress. While many openly discussed her looks, the same people also made her feel insecure about them. That contradiction made the experience even more difficult.
Esha Gupta Reacts to ‘Sex Symbol’ Tag
The actress clarified that she never created the “sex symbol” stereotype herself; others imposed it on her. She blamed the individuals who shape the narratives fed to the media, not the media itself. After reflecting on the label, she questioned its meaning, noting that something like the Kamasutra is a symbol of sex, not a person like her.
She added that people consider her a sex symbol only because of her natural traits, which she emphasized are beyond her control. While she didn’t view the label as entirely negative, she also didn’t see it as a compliment. She admitted that the constant stereotyping had impacted her self-esteem and made her feel insecure about her appearance.

Esha also revealed that constant criticism pushed her to consider toning down her appearance to fit the industry’s favored “girl-next-door” image. She pointed out the irony that, while others once made her feel insecure, many people now undergo surgeries to look like her. The 39-year-old actress shared that a male industry insider once advised her to get a nose job. However, she refused to alter her appearance to please others and chose instead to embrace her natural features.
