Umrao Jaan Premiere: Muzaffar Ali and Rekha will host a special industry screening of Umrao Jaan on Thursday, June 26, at PVR Maison, Jio World Drive, BKC, Mumbai. Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon, Dimple Kapadia, Helen, Shabana Azmi, Anil Kapoor, Rakesh Roshan, A.R. Rahman, Suniel Shetty, Richa Chadha, Ali Fazal, Tabu, Jackie Shroff, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, Boney Kapoor, Vijay Varma, Vedang Raina, and several other stars are set to walk the red carpet.

Sitaare Zameen Par Premiere:

Interestingly, Rekha attended the Sitaare Zameen Par premiere hosted by Aamir Khan on June 19, just a week earlier. Both stars exchanged warm greetings, and their photos and videos quickly went viral. On June 26, Aamir will walk the red carpet and greet Rekha, this time playing host for the Umrao Jaan premiere, reversing their roles from the previous event. Notably, the organizers also invited Priyanka Chopra Jonas to the screening. She took to her Instagram story to apologize and admitted she wouldn’t be able to attend.

Why is Rekha hosting?

In a recent interview with the media, Muzaffar Ali recalled why he cast Rekha in Umrao Jaan. “When I chose Rekha, I saw a resilience in her eyes, something that could make her fall and rise in the same moment,” he said. “She doesn’t get defeated, though she may break. No one else conveyed that to me. I sensed complete submission in her. She knew something natural was unfolding within her, something that would help her become what she could never be otherwise, for this film. Had she shown hesitation, she would never have reached where she did.”

When asked who he would cast in a modern remake of Umrao Jaan, Ali replied, “It’s not easy for Umrao Jaan to find Rekha, or for Rekha to find Umrao Jaan.” He explained that preparing for the role involved multiple stages and required the right age and essence. “Kareena Kapoor has something. Alia Bhatt has something too. But I can’t reveal how much magic they truly hold until I open the book.”
