Several Pakistani YouTube and Instagram accounts briefly became visible in India. This included stars like Saba Qamar, Mawra Hocane, Ahad Raza Mir, Hania Amir, Yumna Zaidi, and Danish Taimoor. However, the visibility lasted only for a short time. The government quickly blocked them again, citing a ‘technical error’ for the accidental unblocking.
Officials revealed that the accounts were unintentionally unblocked due to a technical error. They confirmed the process to block these accounts had resumed. The unblocking caused a stir among viewers and media, but authorities reassured it was unplanned. The accounts remain restricted under India’s national security rules.
All Pakistani channels and accounts were blocked after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 tourist lives. The Indian government acted to limit Pakistani content citing national security and public order concerns. The ban affected popular YouTube channels like Dawn News Pakistan, Samaa TV, ARY News, Geo News, and more.
On May 8, India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ordered OTT and streaming platforms to remove Pakistani content immediately. This included web series, films, songs, and podcasts from Pakistan. The directive aimed to cut off Pakistani media influence after rising tensions between the two nations.
