Kota Srinivas Rao Was an MLA: Why Did He Quit Politics?

Kota Srinivas Rao: Veteran Telugu actor Kota Srinivasa Rao, known for his iconic performances as both a comedian and a villain, passed away this morning after battling health issues for some time. His demise marks a profound loss to the Telugu film industry. As news of his death broke, members of the Tollywood fraternity gathered to pay their final respects and shared heartfelt memories of their time with the legendary actor.

From Screen Stardom to a Political Stint:
Beyond his towering presence in cinema, Kota also ventured into politics, a move not uncommon in the Telugu film industry, where the crossover between cinema and public service has a long history. Deeply inspired by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Kota joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), signaling his interest in serving the public beyond the silver screen.

MLA from Vijayawada East:
Encouraged by former Maharashtra Governor P. C. Vidyasagar Rao, Kota contested and won the 1999 Assembly election from Vijayawada East as a BJP candidate. Many expected him to shift his full focus to public service, anticipating a complete departure from acting. However, Kota found it difficult to sustain his political career after losing the subsequent election.

Despite his sincere desire to serve the people, Kota eventually distanced himself from active politics. In a recent interview, he openly criticized the current political landscape, stating that earlier leaders entered politics with a sense of duty, while many today see it as a path to wealth. His remarks sparked conversations about the changing nature of political ambition.

A Legacy Etched in 700+ Films:

Kota returned to what he did best, acting. He went on to work with top Telugu heroes and delivered several memorable performances. With over 700 films to his credit, his contributions earned him numerous accolades and awards. In recent years, age and a lack of suitable roles have gradually pulled him away from the big screen. However, he remained connected to his fans through candid interviews on YouTube, where he frequently shared insights about his film journey and the evolving landscape of Telugu cinema. Even in his absence, Kota Srinivasa Rao’s voice, characters, and legacy will continue to echo across generations.
