Plot Summary: Where the Horror Begins
Set in 2003 in the small town of Harlow, young Craig Poole struggles with loneliness after losing his mother. His hardworking father tries to raise him with care. One Sunday, billionaire John Harrigan notices Craig at church and hires him to read books aloud at his mansion three times a week. Harrigan, equally lonely, forms a bond with Craig through literary discussions about titles like Heart of Darkness and Lady Chatterley’s Lover.
Although Harrigan built his empire with ruthless business decisions, he grew fond of Craig and even gifted him lottery tickets. In 2007, when the first iPhone launched, Craig won \$4,000 from one of the tickets and used the money to buy Harrigan an iPhone. Though skeptical at first, Harrigan eventually accepts it but warns Craig about the negative influence of smartphones on society.
Harrigan sets “Stand by Your Man” as his ringtone, courtesy of his housekeeper Tommy Wynette. In 2008, he died of a heart attack, leaving Craig a trust fund of \$800,000. During the funeral, Craig secretly places the iPhone in Harrigan’s jacket pocket.

Enraged, Craig calls Harrigan’s phone again, this time with revenge in mind. Soon after, Whitmore dies by suicide, reportedly swallowing shampoo and soap flakes. The shocking part? His note includes lyrics from “Stand by Your Man”, Harrigan’s ringtone.
