Bhaum Pradosh Vrat is a holy Hindu observance of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, which occurs on the occasion of Pradosh Vrat on Tuesday. This fast is referred to as “Bhaum”, which means associated with Mars. This fast is intended to worship strength, courage, and forgiveness.

 


Pradosh literally means “twilight” (sandhya kaal) of Trayodashi (13th day of the lunar calendar). When the Pradosh Vrat is observed on Tuesday it is even more auspicious, called Bhaum Pradosh. In 2025, Bhaum Pradosh Vrat will be observed on 22 July.

 

Date and auspicious timings
Trayodashi Tithi: 22 July 2025 at 7:05 AM to 23 July 2025 at 4:39 AM.
Pradosh kaal muhurat: 22 July 2025 at 7:18 PM to 22 July 2025 at 9:22 PM. Best time for prayers.

 

Rituals

 

  1. Wake up early, take bath and dress in clean clothes.
  2. Observe a fast to show devotion.
  3. Clean the space for puja and place idols of Shiva and Parvati.
  4. Chant “Om Namah Shivaya” and read or recite Pradosh Vrat Katha.
  5. Light diyas and offer bel patra for the deities to please them.
  6. Meditate to connect with divine energy.

Significance

Bhaum Pradosh Vrat is celebrated during the twilight of the 13th day of the lunar calendar to remember Lord Shiva’s help to the Devas in their battle against the Asuras. This too is a day for mental clarity, good relationship and spiritual growth, powerfully for the devotees.
