In the latest interview, Nihar Kapoor, son of a veteran Bollywood star, revealed he was initially considered for the part of Bhallaladeva in the Baahubali series. Kapoor had begun preparations for the role when, using various reasons, filmmakers opted to work with Rana Daggubati instead. S.S. Rajamouli directed Kapoor to take the part of Kalakeya, the warlord, but he refused. Citing heavy prosthetics which would conceal his face.
Why Rana Took Over
After Kapoor backed out, Daggubati took the role-and the rest is history. It was this portrayal of Bhallaladeva that defined the moment in his career, much to his critical acclaim and recognition worldwide. Rana’s monstrous build and intense performance brought depth to the villain, making Bhallaladeva one of the most iconic villains in Indian cinema.
Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion was a box-office smash hit and raised the standards of regional cinema to global standards. The culture of the Baahubali become a grand success due to Rajamouli’s vision, incredible acting, and never-seen-before VFX.
Nihar Kapoor’s View
Even with all the rejection, Nihar Kapoor views life from the brighter side. If he had gotten that role, it could have fast-tracked his career, but he has no regrets. His sober confession adds a new dimension to the Baahubali legacy, one that has casting decisions made second nature for cinematic destiny.

Bahubali Re Release:
On October 31, 2025, the Baahubali story is returning to theatres as a combined feature called Baahubali: The Epic. This marks the 10th anniversary of the franchise. Fans will be able to remember and experience the story of Mahishmati into the countryside with a more immersive and expansive experience with the film that changed the landscape of cinema in India.
