Shahid Kapoor’s much-anticipated project, “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” has been officially shelved. Director Amit Rai, known for his recent success with OMG 2, confirmed the news in a candid interview with Mid-Day. Rai also shared his frustrations about the film industry’s systemic problems.
In his interview, Amit Rai discussed how the industry can be brutally unfair. He expressed his dissatisfaction, saying, “Even after a R180 crore film like OMG 2, it’s still not enough. The system is cruel. How can a director work in an environment where casting, production, star power, and management dictate everything?” He went on to describe how, after spending years on a story, people in the industry would quickly criticize it with little regard for the effort involved.
Amit Rai also shared some exciting news about his future work. He revealed that Pankaj Tripathi, star of OMG 2, will appear in his next project. Rai also mentioned that Akshay Kumar had shown interest in working with him. He praised both actors for their honesty and generosity. Rai acknowledged how rare it is to find actors who are willing to take on projects that aren’t driven solely by box office expectations. “Very few actors are willing to speak the truth about society, even if it means sacrificing a typical love story,” Rai stated.
Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor is currently filming for Vishal Bhardwaj’s next big project. Reports suggest a massive December box office clash between Kapoor’s film, Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, and Prabhas’ The Raja Saab. Despite this fierce competition, the makers of Shahid’s film are reportedly sticking to the original release date.
