Why Joint Pain Worsens In Monsoon: Simple Ways to Ease the Discomfort

Why Joint Pain Worsens In Monsoon? People, especially the elderly and arthritis patients, often complain about increased incidences of joint pain during the rainy season. As a matter of fact, this observation is not mere coincidence. The drop in atmospheric pressure, coupled with increased humidity, causes swelling in the tissues surrounding the joints, triggering stiffness and pain. It is observed that due to the cold, damp weather, the blood circulation slows down, which causes joints to become stiffer and there’s increase in the susceptibility to pain.

Monsoon-induced joint pain management tips

1: Stay Warm
Cold weather makes joints stiff and won’t allow for any movement. Wear warm clothing; utilize heating pads; keep your house warmed comfortably.

2: Take Exercise Regularly
Gentle exercises like yoga, stretching, and perhaps walking indoors can improve flexibility and get stiffness out of the joints.

3: Include Foods for Anti-Inflammation
Limit one’s diet with turmeric, ginger, omega-3-rich foods (flax seeds and walnuts), and leafy greens for fighting inflammation.

4: Massage & Hot Showers
Warm oil massages would improve blood flow in addition to their effect on pain relief. Likewise, taking a warm shower in the morning would also relax stiff joints.

5: Keep your Vitamin levels in check
Vitamin D, for instance, is reduced during monsoon; it worsens symptoms of joints.

6: Stay Dry
Do not get caught in the rain, and after dousing, quickly change wet clothes. Dampness increases muscle tightness and pain.

When to See a Doctor

If joint pain has become habitual to you and you can’t carry out daily activities, a doctor should be consulted. It may tell whether there’s a condition or something that will require attention.
