The researchers looked at why a high-nitrate diet lowers blood pressure, especially in older people. Researchers found that older people who drank beetroot juice twice a day for two weeks had lower blood pressure.


 

The study was conducted on people under the age of 30 and between the ages of 60 and 70. The researchers found that beetroot juice, which is rich in nitrates, can lower blood pressure in older people by suppressing harmful bacteria in the mouth.

 

When there is an imbalance between good and bad oral bacteria, it reduces the conversion of nitrate to nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is essential for the healthy functioning of blood vessels and thus for blood pressure control.

Beetroot Juice

A diet rich in nitrates has health benefits. Nitric oxide levels decrease in older people as they age. They are also more likely to have high blood pressure. This is linked to heart complications such as heart attack and stroke. The British Heart Foundation states that beetroot juice can help lower blood pressure.

Beetroot contains betaine. It helps stimulate liver function and eliminate toxins, which can reduce the accumulation of fat in the liver.
