But the reason why one of Telugu cinema’s most dynamic actors is shifting towards a behind-the-camera thing.
Rana was already working as a visual effects coordinator and producer before he became an actor. His love for storytelling has always been beyond performance. Under his production house Spirit Media, he is currently trying to highlight original and genre-bending stories with strong narrations-through examples, the next film Kaantha featuring Dulquer Salmaan.
Rana went out in the open regarding all his health concerns, the most striking of which was a major surgery related to his kidneys after which he had long recuperation periods. It made him slow down on acting commitments and begin deciphering how he would still be useful to cinema without compromising his health. Producing allows him to be involved creatively yet not have the physical commitments of acting.
He is specializing in projects that defy the barriers regional and national boundaries stand. Everybody from A to insthelena would now converge to the pan pan-India and international scale with his fairly impressive projects but opening new voices and directors to the world. His recent projects speak content over conventional formulae.
It wasn’t like Rana had given up acting completely. The parts he now takes on add weight and novelty, like this new dark, gritty avatar of his he plays in the Netflix series Rana Naidu. That’s how his approach has changed; for him, the quality now matters more than quantity.
