Smelly Wet Clothes: Clothes don’t dry quickly during the rainy season, which often causes them to smell bad. If we dry them outside, it starts raining. So, we have to dry them indoors, but then, the smell fills the house. Here’s what you can do to prevent that musty smell during the rainy season:
Lemon Juice Tip
Add lemon juice to a spray bottle and mix it well with water. After the clothes are dry, spray this mixture on them. It helps remove the bad smell and leaves a fresh, pleasant fragrance.
Vinegar Tip
Vinegar has properties that fight off the bacteria causing bad odors. Add a small amount of vinegar to the water while washing the clothes. You can also spray diluted vinegar on the clothes after they dry. This will help eliminate most of the smell. Even after drying and folding clothes, they can still smell when stored in the wardrobe due to humidity. To avoid this, sprinkle some baking soda in the wardrobe before placing the clothes inside. This helps absorb moisture and keeps the clothes smelling fresh.
If clothes are not fully dry, they will develop a strong odor. So, make sure to fold them only after they’re completely dry. Don’t soak clothes in water for too long; 15 minutes is enough. After that, wash and dry them quickly. Washing clothes the same day you wear them also helps reduce bad smells. Leaving them unwashed for days increases odor.

Many people leave wet clothes in the washing machine and delay drying. This worsens the smell, especially during the rainy season. It’s best to dry clothes immediately after washing. To keep clothes smelling fresh in the wardrobe, place naphthalene balls in the corners. This will add a nice scent and prevent bad smells when you open the doors.
In summer, it’s okay to dry many clothes in a small space. But in the rainy season, give each item some space to breathe. Don’t pile them on top of each other; this traps moisture and increases odor. When it rains, dry your clothes under a fan at home. If you leave them wet without proper air circulation, the smell will only get worse.
