Two decades after its original release, Parineeta is making a grand return to cinemas. The 2005 romantic classic has been restored in 8K and will be re-released to mark its 20th anniversary. The film not only introduced Vidya Balan to Indian cinema but also remains a career-defining moment for Saif Ali Khan and a beloved project for Sanjay Dutt.
Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar, Parineeta is remembered for its soulful music, elegant storytelling, and emotional depth.
Vidya Balan, who made her acting debut with Parineeta, called the re-release an emotional milestone. “This is where it all began. I owe so much to this film,” she said. “People still remember the songs and the magic of Pradeep da’s direction. I hope a new generation discovers that old-world love through Parineeta.”
Saif Ali Khan echoed her sentiments. “Parineeta was a turning point for me. It allowed me to explore a more subtle, restrained character. It had elegance and depth that’s rare,” he said, recalling his time working with Vidya, Pradeep Sarkar, and Sanjay Dutt.
Sanjay Dutt also expressed affection for the film. “This was a beautiful, honest project. I loved playing a character so understated and real. I’m happy a new audience will now get to experience it,” he said.
