A man has recently won a divorce that included no alimony ,after enduring a number of false legal cases his wife filed against him. This story went viral on the front page of Reddit when user itachi_senpai1 shared it, causing a massive discussion online.
His wife filed some serious, and wrong, charges against him such as cruelty under IPC Section 498A,. She also filed a maintenance case under CrPC Section 125 and a domestic violence case against him. Even though he had a tough legal battle, he didn’t want to hire a lawyer and successfully represented himself in court.
His wife initially sought the huge sum of ₹70 lakh as a divorce settlement, but she later reduced that number to ₹35 lakh, and then to ₹30 lakh. The man remained strong, and would only agree to a divorce settlement of ₹1 lakh.
Almost 3 years after the legal battle started, the wife’s lawyer discussed a mutually agreed divorce with no alimony or maintenance for the wife. The man accepted and celebrated finally
getting his freedom.
Nearly three years after starting on a legal battle, the wife’s attorney proposed a mutual divorce in which neither party asked nor compensated for alimony or maintenance. The man agreed, and he was able to celebrate who many argued was his hard-won freedom.
The man celebrated the victory with a divorce cake that he shared with friends and co-workers. The Reddit post received many positive comments praising his courage and legal knowledge.
Many users were frustrated by how divorce cases often lead to favours false allegations. Some users claimed that divorce lawyers and the judges were profiting off of the large alimony payouts.
