Kingdom Box Office Collections Day 1: Considering the anticipation and fan frenzy surrounding it, Vijay’s latest Telugu endeavor, Kingdom, has opened with mixed opinions on the commercial and mass entertainment side. The film was expected to net big numbers from day one onward. So how did the Kingdom actually perform on Day 1, and how far back does it need to recover?
The film grossed ₹15.50 crores at the box office on its Day 1, among the better openings for Vijay in recent years. This crushes the ₹5.75 crores opening day collection of his pervious film. The Family Star, while just beating Kushi’s ₹15.25 crore record. Below that still is Liger’s gross which stands at ₹15.95 crore and is still considered the highest for Vijay on Day 1.
The film collected an average of 57.87% occupancy across the Telugu states. While the morning shows have shown the maximum crowd (63.56%), with timely footfalls in the night (61.27%).
The film is estimated to be made on a budget between ₹90–100 crore, including all marketing and promotional costs. For break-even purposes, it is estimated the film will need a worldwide gross between ₹110–120 crore. Given the sell-off of the theatrical rights in certain territories at much higher rates, a sustainable collection on weekdays will be the key.
An average but not great start, especially given his stature as a star. Mixed reviews and stark competition may hamper the film’s prospects at the box office. However, if it manages to clinch good word-of-mouth status during the weekend, it can still get back on track and resume towards profitability.
