71st National Film Awards: Kerala Leaders Criticize BJP Over ‘The Kerala Story’

71st National Film Awards: Opposition leader VD Satheesan said in a statement that the BJP government is also targeting a hate campaign in the National Film Awards. VD Satheesan said that the award was given to the film ‘The Kerala Story’ only with the aim of spreading religious hatred and this cannot be accepted.

71st National Film Awards Was Rigged?

The Sangh Parivar and the BJP government, which are leading the hunt for Christians, have also politicized the National Film Awards. The BJP and the Sangh Parivar, which are implementing the politics of division, are trying to gain political advantage by spreading false information about Kerala. This will not work, VD Satheesan criticized. The National Award for Best Director is for Kerala Story. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had also come out with criticism against the award announcement.

Minister Saji Cherian criticized that it was a grave mistake to give awards to a film that was intended to defame Kerala and spread religious hatred. This is an insult to the great tradition of Indian cinema that upholds secularism and human values. Saji Cherian also clarified in a Facebook post that this is an attempt to use art as a weapon to implement fascist agendas.

Saji Cherian’s full Facebook post:

When this year’s National Film Awards were announced, Malayalam cinema received well-deserved recognition. This is recognition for the hard work and creativity of our talented artists. My heartfelt congratulations to Urvashi for winning the Best Supporting Actress award and Vijayaraghavan for winning the Best Supporting Actor award. I hope these achievements inspire more great works of art.

However, during this celebration, a sad truth needs to be pointed out. It is a grave mistake to give awards to a film that is intended to defame Kerala and spread religious hatred. This is an insult to the great tradition of Indian cinema that upholds secularism and human values. This is an attempt to use art as a weapon to implement fascist agendas.

Awards should be given on the basis of merit and should be exemplary, not used to propagate communalism. All democratic believers should stand together against this move to use art as a tool of communal politics.
