Prithviraj Sukumaran’s survival epic, Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life), has remained largely unrecognized by the 71st National Film Awards, even though it was the reigning winner of the 2024 Kerala State Film Awards. The other result of this omission is rage in cyberspace with fans declaring it to be laughable and illegitimate. Prithviraj Sukumaran Fans Slams National Awards For Ignoring Goat Life.
Aadujeevitham failed to make its mark in any of the categories nominated for including Best Actor, Direction, Cinematography, and Music, leaving much confusion in fans and film lovers alike. Jury members cited authenticity of performances and technical execution concerns with filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker among others denying its naturality.
State vs. National Honor: A Huge Divide
The film grabbed the honors in nine categories at the 54th State Film Awards in Kerala as follows:
Best Actor: Prithviraj Sukumaran
Best Director: Blessy
Cinematography, Makeup, Sound Mixing, and more
Prithviraj referred to it as a “once-in-a-lifetime miracle,” thanking the director, Blessy, for his orientation on spiritual levels in bringing the story alive.
Fan Mood: “What a Joke”
Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) as well as many Reddit threads to air their resentments at the national snub:
“Prithviraj for The Goat Life ig, he spent nearly 16 years to fully make this film n did great acting wise”
Not a singular opinion though; for, among others, viewers criticized the adaptations superficiality and claimed the movie was not a fair representation of the novel’s emotional core. One Redditor said:
“Prithviraj…effort to such a daring task. The work he put in…is admirable. But … how he did justice to the role is questionable.”
