Shanavas: The renowned movie star Prem Nazir’s son, Shanavas, died late Monday night at the age of 71. After receiving treatment for kidney-related conditions at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, the seasoned Malayalam actor passed away. The actor was admitted just a few hours before he passed away around midnight, according to medical sources.
Shanavas had been living a comparatively calm life in recent years, living in an apartment close to Akashvani in Vazhuthacaud. For many Malayali moviegoers, his passing marks the end of an era, as they remember him as a gifted actor in his own right as well as the son of a legend. According to the most recent information, the Palayam Muslim Jamaath cemetery will host his funeral this evening.
Who is Malayalam Actor Shanavas?
While he pursued his MA in English Literature at New College, Chennai, Shanavas debuted in films in 1981 with Premageethangal, directed by Balachandra Menon. Despite carrying a well-known last name, he carved out a distinct identity by portraying a wide range of characters in Tamil and Malayalam cinema.
Over four decades, the veteran actor performed in 96 films, taking on roles that ranged from romantic leads to intense villains. He delivered some of his most memorable performances in Mouna Raagam, Chithram, Gaanam, Maharajavu, Manithali, and Premageethangal. After a long break, he returned to the screen alongside Mohanlal in the 2011 blockbuster China Town, marking a successful comeback.

Shanavas co-starred with his father, Prem Nazir, in seven films, beginning with Ivan Oru Simham. He delivered his final performance in the critically acclaimed thriller Jana Gana Mana (2022), starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, where he proved that age did not diminish his on-screen presence. In addition to his film work, Shanavas appeared in several well-known television series. He received his education in Chennai, Yercaud, and Chirayinkeezhu. Off-screen, people regarded him as a calm and thoughtful person. His coworkers remember him as a humble, genuine, and dedicated actor.
