Sandhya Theater Stampede: The tragic incident that took place at the Sandhya 70MM Theater in Hyderabad on the occasion of the release of the film Pushpa 2 on December 4, 2024, has come to light once again. A woman died and a child was seriously injured in this incident that took place during the special premiere screening of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ starring icon star Allu Arjun.
A huge crowd of fans gathered at the theatre to watch the special premiere of Allu Arjun. In the stampede that ensued, a 35-year-old woman named Revathi died and her 8-year-old son Sri Tej was seriously injured.
In this incident, cases were registered against the theater management, Allu Arjun and his security personnel under sections 105 and 118(1). Allu Arjun was arrested by the police and released on bail within a few hours. The theater owner and manager were also arrested. Later, Allu Arjun and the ‘Pushpa 2’ film unit provided financial assistance to the victim’s family.
Recently, another twist has taken place in this case. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recently issued a show cause notice to the Chief Secretary (CS) of the Telangana government. Expressing dissatisfaction over the report submitted by the police department, the NHRC ordered, “According to the report, there was no police permission for the premiere show. Then how did Allu Arjun go to the theater? How did so many spectators attend? Would this incident have happened if proper steps had been taken? The investigation should be conducted impartially. The full report should be submitted within six weeks.”
Not only this, the NHRC also questioned why the victim’s family should not be given a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh. With the National Human Rights Commission dissatisfied with the report submitted by the police, there are chances that this case will become serious again.
