Free High-Speed Wi-Fi in Trains: The Government of India has taken another major step towards advancing the Digital India initiative. After allocating significant funds to Indian Railways, the Centre is now offering free high-speed Wi-Fi to passengers at 6,115 railway stations across the country.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that passengers can now enjoy free Wi-Fi at stations including New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kacheguda, Secunderabad, and many more.
In a written reply to a question from Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, the Minister revealed that passengers can use this facility to download movies, songs, and games, or even complete office work within the station premises during emergencies. The service is being provided in collaboration with the Railways’ telecom arm, RailTel.
“Almost all railway stations under Indian Railways have 4G/5G coverage from telecom providers, which passengers already use for data connectivity. These free Wi-Fi services at 6,115 stations further enhance the passenger experience,” Vaishnaw said.
