They are endowed with superstars, gigantic production values, and pan-India hype. While Coolie has Superstar Rajinikanth and box-office hit Lokesh Kanagaraj, War 2 is placed within YRF’s Spy Universe and will be bringing together Hrithik Roshan with Tollywood superstar Jr NTR. The battle has now come down to advance bookings, and the early numbers are revealing quite a surprise.

War 2 Leads In Shows, Coolie Leads In Sales

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, War 2 has been assigned 8,510 shows all over India as of 9 am on August 12-bettering Coolie’s 7,338. However, having more show numbers does not necessarily mean that sales follow suit. Presently, Coolie has sold an incredible 8,35,850 tickets for day one-561.7% higher than War 2’s 1,26,287 tickets. This extraordinary figure is a testimony to Rajinikanth’s prestige, unrivaled in South Indian markets, where his movies are celebrated like festivals.

Revenue Race: Coolie Far Ahead

War 2 has already raked in about ₹4.11 crore from advance ticket sales for the first day. And from that standpoint, its debut business may have touched an estimated ₹8.54 crore. Meanwhile, Coolie made a whopping ₹17.72 crore from advance bookings alone for day one. And is expected to open at an impressive ₹24.28 crore even before factoring in post-release word-of-mouth.

Formats and Market Strategy

War 2 will release in Hindi (2D, IMAX, DOLBY, 4DX & Premium formats), Tamil (2D), and Telugu (2D, 4DX), making it truly pan-Indian. Coolie, however, is more regionally focused but is riding extremely high on pre-release hype. And should thus score a bigger opening despite fewer shows.

For now, Coolie is way ahead in advance bookings, in terms of ticket sales alongside revenue earnings. War 2 has some time to catch up, but Rajinikanth’s action entertainer seems to be limping into taking an opening of historic proportions, making this box office clash one for the history books.
