Nagarjuna surprised fans by choosing to play a villain in the upcoming film Coolie. At a recent Spotify event for the film’s Hindi album launch, the actor said, “I got bored playing goodie all the time, so I chose to play the villain. It felt liberating.”
He added that he was eager to work with composer Anirudh Ravichander and director Lokesh Kanagaraj. “I was dying and waiting to work with Anirudh and Lokesh. Anirudh gave me the song ‘I Am the Danger.’ Lokesh played random music on set, especially for my villain scenes, and it worked wonders,” Nagarjuna revealed.
Nagarjuna did not accept the role immediately. He held seven to eight meetings with Lokesh before agreeing. “I made Lokesh work hard to convince me,” he said. Despite his decision, Nagarjuna joked that this role is something he won’t brag about to his grandchildren. “It’s too bad. I don’t want to tell them about it,” he laughed.
Nagarjuna praised his legendary co-star Rajinikanth for his support during filming. “Working with Rajini sir was fantastic. His charisma and presence on set were amazing,” Nagarjuna said. He also revealed that Rajinikanth helped him with Tamil dialogues and coached him on delivery. “That kindness made the experience even better,” he added.
Coolie is a highly anticipated action thriller directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Sun Pictures. It marks Rajinikanth’s 171st lead role. The film also stars Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, and Soubin Shahir, with a cameo by Aamir Khan. Anirudh Ravichander composed the music, continuing his successful collaboration with Rajinikanth and Lokesh.
