What is ₹300 Crore Scam in Chitrapuri Housing Society?

Film Workers Protest-Chitrapuri Scam: A massive protest erupted in front of the Film Development Corporation (FDC) office on Wednesday when hundreds of film workers and union leaders gathered to demand the immediate arrest of Chitrapuri Cooperative Housing Society President Vallabhaneni Anil Kumar. During the demonstration, protestors accused him and his committee of orchestrating a ₹300-crore housing scam, allegedly denying homes to genuine film workers and instead selling society flats on the black market for crores of rupees.

❂ Allegations of Corruption and Land Misuse

The demonstration, led by the Chitrapuri Porata Samithi (Action Committee) and CITU, strongly highlighted a long-running conspiracy to deprive workers of affordable housing. In particular, protestors alleged that in the remaining 2.5 acres of society land, the committee is planning to construct large luxury flats ranging from 1,200 to 4,400 sq. ft. for outsiders rather than the single and double-bedroom flats needed by members. Furthermore, according to them, the committee is colluding with HMDA and also using political influence from the CMO’s office to push these projects forward, ultimately bypassing the housing needs of genuine society members.

❂ Court Orders Being Ignored

Protestors claimed that Vallabhaneni Anil Kumar already faces 15 FIRs and 10 charge sheets and has been to jail twice. Yet, they allege his “illegal activities” continue unchecked. Furthermore, they pointed out that the Telangana High Court, in Writ Petition Nos. 18225/2021, 7642/2024, and 9335/2025 have directed action against the current committee. However, they accused officials of ignoring these orders, thereby allowing corruption to flourish.

❂ Serious Charges Against Government and Officials

In addition, protestors directed their anger towards the state government, accusing some current cabinet ministers of having links to the scam. They argued that “the previous government paid the price for protecting the corrupt. Now, some ministers are again shielding those involved. Therefore, the Chief Minister must intervene directly. The Co-operative Minister, Thummala Nageswara Rao, is being misled by officers involved in this multi-crore fraud,” they alleged.

❂ Key Demands from Protestors
The protesting film workers listed a series of demands:

⦿ Deliver justice to 6,000 members who paid for homes 20–25 years ago but have still not received them.

⦿ Immediately cancel the decision to issue 1,000 new memberships.

⦿ Dissolve the current committee and appoint an ad-hoc committee.

⦿ Ensure the twin towers project includes only single and double-bedroom flats for eligible film workers.

⦿ Also, take strict action against officials who are failing to implement High Court orders.

❂ Protest Leaders and Participation

Several famous and important leaders joined the protest, including Chitrapuri Porata Samithi President Kasturi Srinivas, Junior Artistes CITU leader Sankuri Ravinder, activist Bhadra, Navodayam Party President Sivashankar Patel, AAP leader Hema Sudarshan, Gadam Lalitha, Ramesh Varma, Srinu, C.H. Prakash, Om Prakash, Gopala Krishna, Maddineni Ramesh, and others. Moreover, the protestors vowed to continue their agitation until the government takes concrete action against the accused and delivers homes to the long-waiting members.
