Coolie Review: Did Rajinikanth Collab With Lokesh Kanagaraj Win?

Coolie Review: After a break, Rajinikanth is reliving full mass-action fest mode on screen with this one directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. With Nagarjuna cast in a menacing role as the antagonist, Aamir Khan makes a cameo appearance, and the film combines dark storytelling with grand heroism.

Story

It is the story of a fearless dock worker turned vigilante (Rajinikanth). Who goes against a powerful smuggling syndicate headed by Simon (Nagarjuna). Battling betrayal, corruption, and looming personal loss upping the stakes, it all comes down to an explosive final showdown where it all comes down to sheer strength and most importantly, conviction.

Coolie Review

Rajinikanth’s Coolie is helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who can be easily identified with hard-hitting fast-paced storytelling style. The film has Rajinikanth in the lead, Nagarjuna as the antagonist with Aamir Khan in a special cameo. With Shruti Haasan and Shobana lending emotional gravitas to the narrative. While music is by Anirudh Ravichander, Girish Gangadharan is responsible for cinematography and Sun Pictures takes care of production, a dream team for a mass-action entertainer.

Analysis:

Coolie thrives on the magnetic presence of Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s signature blend of raw action with stylized storytelling. Right from the first frame, Rajini’s swagger and punch dialogues lift the film and keep the audience engrossed, while Nagarjuna’s villainy bears weight and the cameo of Aamir Khan comes as a pleasant surprise. Anirudh Ravichander’s background score is adrenaline-pumping for the action sequences.

Which is choreographed with style, though at times, excessive violence could be jarring for some viewers. The first half moves at breakneck speed and sets up a strong conflict, but the second half experiences a slight dip before reviving itself for the satisfying climax. The cinematography captures the gritty essence of the docks and the grandeur of the action set pieces, thus establishing Coolie as a mass entertainer, fit for the festival season.

Plus Points

Rajinikanth’s electrifying performance

Strong performance of the villain by Nagarjuna
