Why Is Shraddha Kapoor Rarely Called Out for Nepotism?

Shraddha Kapoor: In the ongoing discussions around nepotism in Bollywood, some celebrity kids are mercilessly scrutinized, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, and Ananya Panday often find themselves at the center of public debate. But one name seems to consistently escape the same level of criticism: Shraddha Kapoor.

A recent Reddit thread has sparked intense discussion around this very question. Despite being the daughter of veteran actor Shakti Kapoor and having clear industry connections, Shraddha is rarely called out in the nepotism conversation. Why does she get a free pass?

Reddit discuss

Redditors suggest it’s largely due to her well-managed public image. She’s seen as relatable, low-key, and grounded frequently dressed in simple Indian wear, steering clear of celebrity parties, and presenting herself as “one of us.” Many believe this “too good to be true” persona is no coincidence, crediting her PR team with crafting an image that makes her appear as an outside, even though she clearly isn’t.

Some users alleged that her PR has quietly taken shots at contemporaries like Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, and Alia Bhatt, while positioning Shraddha as the “OG National Crush.” Claims also surfaced about her pretending to be “banned” from major production houses, despite receiving offers from most of them; except, notably, Excel Entertainment. These narratives, according to Redditors, contribute to the belief that she’s playing both sides, benefiting from privilege while maintaining the illusion of struggle.

Criticism about her acting also comes up. Several Reddit users call her acting “cringe-worthy” and question how she escapes trolling when other nepo actors don’t. Her role in Stree was highlighted, with some claiming she overshadowed the supporting cast who actually carried the film. Allegations about her brand, Palmonas, being misleading were also discussed but again, without much mainstream backlash.

On the other hand, some Redditors defended her, citing interviews with casting director Mukesh Chhabra and director Mohit Suri who claimed she auditioned for several roles, including Haider and ABCD 2. To them, she is professional, drama-free, and more talented than many other nepo kids.

In the end, as Reddit users point out, the Bollywood nepotism debate is full of double standards, and Shraddha Kapoor, whether by design or perception, has managed to fly under the radar far more than most.
