Janmashtami 2025: For Mouni Roy, Krishna Janmashtami is more than just a holiday because she and Lord Krishna share an unspoken connection. Her confidence in the lord has been so deep that the actor studied the text in a special class and talked about how it altered her. For me, studying the Bhagavad Gita was a life-changing event. It improved my comprehension of Lord Krishna’s teachings and gave me the ability to think more clearly and peacefully about life. I read more than just the Gita now. Even when life throws me the biggest curveballs, I strive to live it,” she adds.
Mouni Roy remembers her childhood celebrations of Krishna Janmashtami with her family. “Janmashtami was a very joyous occasion at home while I was growing up. My family would exquisitely decorate the puja room. For Lord Krishna’s janma aarti, we would perform Krishna abhishekam, sing bhajans, and remain up until midnight,” she says, adding that the festivities have grown more subdued and reflective over time. I make it a point to read several chapters from the Bhagavad Gita and set aside some time to recite his mantra, even if I may not always be at home with my family these days. The dedication is still the same, even though the outward rites have changed.

“I have many happy memories of Janmashtami, but what I cherish most is the joy of celebrating as a family, decorating the puja space, singing bhajans, and staying up till midnight for the aarti,” Mouni recalls. For me, those times of commitment and camaraderie are what make the festival memorable. The actor continues, “The devotional atmosphere that permeates the day, from the music and prayers to the sense of tranquility it offers, is what I find most unique about it. I want to keep things simple this year, doing a puja and taking some time to think in peace.
It just so happens that Mouni’s acting career started with a role that featured his name; she refers to this as a “divine intervention.” Yes, I have given that a lot of thought. Krishna Tulsi in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was my first TV job, and I’ve always thought that wasn’t a coincidence. In a sense, that role and that name signaled the start of my artistic career. She says, “I do feel a divine connection with him, and I’m very thankful for it.”
