Viduthalai Part 2 Ott release: Vijay Sethupathi’ film extended by 1 hour

Viduthalai Part 2 helmed and co-produced by Vetrimaaran under RS Infotainment and Grass Root Film Company made it’s grand theatrical debut in theatres on 20 December 2024 to positive reviews from critics and audiences.

The period political crime thriller has been running successfully in theaters since its release on December 20. While some fans have already seen the film in theaters, others are anticipating its OTT release.

Viduthalai Part 2 starring Vijay Sethupathi, Soori and Manju Warrier will be extended by 1 hour for Ott release. In a recent conversation with a media house, film’s director Vetrimaaran revealed that the streaming version will have an extended runtime with an extra hour of footage. The film’s runtime is 2 hrs 40 minutes, and it will be extended by 1 hour, so the film’s OTT version runtime will be 3 hrs 40 minutes.

Vetrimaran said, Viduthalai Part 2 extended version (one hour extra) will be released on OTT. In the US an extra 8 minutes are being played as we trimmed the movie at the last moment. Part-1 & Part-2 footage itself will be about 8 hours in total. The combined runtime of both parts will be approximately eight hours.

Filmmakers are yeat to maker an official Ott released ate announcement. However, the post-theatrical streaming rights were acquired by ZEE5, where it is expected to begin streaming from early 2025 after film’s lock in period.

The action thriller Viduthalai Part 2 plot follows Perumal Vaathiyar, played by Sethupathi, who is captured by the police. His backstory shows how he went from being a teacher to a leader of a people’s movement, inspired by communist ideologies.Eventually, he becomes a revolutionary and is branded an outlaw. Despite his attempts, Vaathiyar is captured by Kumaresan’s battalion.

The film along with its predecessor had its world premiere at 53rd International Film Festival Rotterdam on 31 January 2024. Viduthalai Part 2 received postive reviews, who praised Vetrimaaran’s direction, narration, lead cast’s performances and emotional depth, while the dubbing received criticism.It is successfully running in theaters. According to a source the OTT release date is expected to drop on ZEE5 by mid-January 2025.
