War 2 Vs Coolie: Bollywood’s Independence Day 2025 weekend saw two mega releases in a head-on clash, War 2 and Coolie. With extremely high expectations, these films drew crowds in large numbers, but the burning question remains – Who actually won the weekend?
War 2 has turned out to be an Indian action entertainer with amazing action sequences, crisp visuals, and high-energy drama-all starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR. The audience rushed in hordes to the theatres, and the film managed to rake in a fabulous ₹171 crore over the weekend. The fan following for each of the two stars was majorly responsible for the strong opening, with multiplexes fully booked throughout the metros. The film received mixed reviews, with high praise for its scale and performances and some questioning its cliched storyline.
On the opposite end, Rajinikanth’s Charisma remained as a winning factor with Coolie. Huge anticipation and excitement made the film not only rule the single screens but also create waves in the urban centres. With a clear ₹192 crore collection over the weekend, Coolie literally overshadowed its rival. Packed with massy entertainment, punch dialogues, and Rajinikanth’s larger-than-life persona, the film struck in nice harmony with both families and die-hard fans.
And while War 2 performed extraordinarily, it was Coolie that emerged as the weekend victor at the box office, beating War 2 by ₹21 crore. The fact that it appealed to all audiences and Rajinikanth’s unmatched star power tipped the scales in favour of Coolie.

The clash has delivered two massive entertainers for the audiences, while the coming of weekdays will tell how well both films hold. Huge numbers on the box office scale might favour Coolie, but War 2 is still getting strong support from urban multiplexes. Given, 2025’s Independence Day has bestowed one truly fierce box office fight in a long time.
