Joy, Red Velvet’s beloved vocalist, has made her solo comeback after over four years. She returned to the spotlight with fresh energy and a deeply personal new album. On August 18, she released her new extended play, From Joy, with Love, a six-track album she calls a musical letter to her fans.
Speaking to fans in a livestream, Joy described the album as a collection of emotions she held close. “With love is something you write in a letter,” she said. “That really touched me, and I wanted this album to feel like a letter to you.”
The EP is built around four themes playful love, friendship, self-love, and romantic love. Joy said she spent time reflecting on how to express something as big as love in a way that felt honest and light.
The title track, “Love Splash!”, stands out with its upbeat, dreamy sound. Joy described it as a fresh take on new love, paired with a melody that brings out her “pure and pretty” side.
Among the six songs, Joy personally penned the lyrics for “Get Up and Dance.” She said the song came to life the moment she heard the beat and it instantly made her picture two people falling hard for each other. She wanted the lyrics to feel like pages from a romance novel: intense, rhythmic, and a little flirty. Joy added a playful tension to each line, making the song feel alive and full of spark.

Joy shared that working on this album gave her a renewed sense of purpose.
She once found the process daunting, but now she feels deeply grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life. “I think about this album 24/7,” she admitted. “I just hope everyone listening can feel the love I put into it.”
