Chilling Video: Man Swept Away in Mithi River, Rescued in Powai

Chilling Video: A young man was washed away in the swollen Mithi River while swimming in Mumbai during the recent days of intense rain. Thankfully, after much effort, he was saved close to the Phulenagar neighborhood of Powai. The person is identified as Aman Imtiyaz Sayyad, who is thirty years old.

On August 19, he drowned in the Mithi River at approximately 11:30 a.m. He was swept away after losing his hold on a wall amid a strong river flow. The spectators recorded the entire event.

Aman Imtiyaz Sayyad lives in Powai and is a teacher by profession. As he and his pals went swimming in the Mithi River, the river’s flow abruptly surged, and he was carried away by the rushing water. Locals hurried over to aid him, but he was unable to grasp the rope and drowned farther in the river.

Police Response to this incident:

Datta Nalawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 10, Mumbai, provided an update on the incident. Strong currents made it impossible for him to hold himself, he said. Locals hurried to save him as soon as he cried for assistance. He was clinging on a brick from the river’s retaining wall when someone dropped a rope into the water to save him. A number of people were reportedly also discovered swimming at Powai Lake in the afternoon, but they reportedly ran away when the police arrived.
