Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most exuberant festivals celebrated in India, in which devotees pay homage to Ganesha, the god who removes obstacles. While most people recognize the familiar image of Ganesha with his elephant head and modaks in hand, the scriptures describe several forms of the deity, with each having its own significance and story. Here are 10 lesser-known forms of Ganesha that you probably have never heard about.

1. Vakratunda Ganesha

Twisted trunk forms, it signifies a win over evil. This symbolizes Ganesha’s power to crush arrogance and negative forces.


2. Ekadanta Ganesha

The name Ekadanta means “one-tusked,” that is sacrifice and endurance. It is believed he broke off one of his tusks so he could write the Mahabharata whilst Vyasa dictated to him.

3. Heramba Ganesha

A comparatively rare form depicted with five heads and ten arms seated upon a lion. Primarily worshiped in Nepal, this form is for protection of the helpless and giving them strength.

4. Mahodara Ganesha

This pot-bellied form represents the infinite and the universe’s abundancy. Mahodara is associated with wisdom, patience, and prosperity.

5. Lambodara Ganesha

Another pot-bellied name, Lambodara signifying balancing , the idea that the divine accommodates both the small and the vast within.

6. Dhumravarna Ganesha

Among the most unique forms, Dhumravarna translates to “smoke-colored.” He rides a horse and is believed to eradicate illusions and confusions.

7. Vighnaraja Ganesha

“King of obstacles” is the form of this deity that sits on the mouse-vehicle, symbolizing power over impediment. The devotees believe that invoking Vighnaraja would help them in smoothing their paths in life.

8. Kshipra Prasada Ganesha

This manifestation is quick in granting boons and blessings. Kshipra Prasada, depicted with a lotus in his hand, is thought to bestow immediate favors upon a devotee who sincerely offers prayers.

9. Nritya Ganesha

The dancing form of Ganesha, Nritya Ganesha, embodies joy, rhythm, and creativity, being worshipped by artists, dancers, and musicians before any performance.

More literally “remover of sorrow,” this form of Ganesha is worshipped primarily in Tamil Nadu during the Ganesh Chaturthi set on Sankatahara to ward off challenges and grant serenity.
