For decades, Salman Khan has been synonymous with the character of ‘Prem’ in Sooraj Barjatya’s films. However, the iconic role is now being passed on to Ayushmann Khurrana in Barjatya’s upcoming project, Prem Ki Shaadi. The film will mark a new chapter in the Rajshri Productions legacy, with Khurrana stepping into the beloved shoes of Prem.
Industry sources confirm that while Barjatya had initially planned to work with Salman Khan on this project, it has now evolved into a new script entirely. The film, set to go on floors in October, will reinvent the classic ‘Prem’ character for modern viewers, but will still honor the family values that are a hallmark of Barjatya’s films.
A source close to the development explained, “This is not the same film Salman and Sooraj ji had discussed earlier. It’s a fresh take, but with the same heartwarming family values that define Rajshri productions.”
The crew is already hard at work preparing for the first schedule of the film in Mumbai.
Three elaborate sets are being built for Prem Ki Shaadi at Chitrakoot Grounds in Andheri and Ellora Studios in Mira Road. One set will resemble a temple courtyard, while another will depict a large family home.
A crew member revealed, “We’re working with three art teams simultaneously to ensure every detail is perfect. The sets are being carefully constructed, and the actors will start table reads by the end of September.”
