Param Sundari Review: Bollywood Next Big Hit or Just Average?

Param Sundari Review: Bollywood Next Big Hit or Just Average?

Param Sundari Review: Param Sundari seems to have all the ingredients for an entertaining film-melodrama, music, and emotions in abandon. It is not surprising that it is an ensemble cast attempting to marry a ‘fun storyline’ with ‘not-so-meaningless commentary’ on the issues. Maddock was already a film of curiosity even before its release, and soon we shall find out whether it lives up to such curiosity or exceeds it.

Story

This film tells the story of Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor), a young girl full of life and aspirations, Who fell in love with Param (Siddarth Malhotra). Sundari, whose dreams do not match well against the pressures of society. Sundari loves the glitz of urbanity but is suddenly confronted with earthly happenings that pull her back into the world of roots where she battles with identity crisis, relationship issues, and self-discovery. The narration floats around comic and romantic emotional drama with a pinch of social message in there.

Analysis

Looking at the main character, Param Sundari, was indeed a treat to see and also an additional merit for the acting. The balance struck between commercial masala and an attempt to convey some messages, in fact, defines the real zest of the movie by its direction. Breezy, light-hearted, and accompanied by some good numbers to match the mood; the first half surely had all the right vibes. The comedy keeps the audience laughing, but it is the charm of the heroine that captures them.

But with this, an abrupt serious turn presented itself: family conflicts, sacrifices, and moral preachings were at their extreme in the latter part of the film. While this tonal shift deepens the movie, the pacing of the screenplay leaves something to be desired. Some sections drag and ruin the intensity of the message. Still, the emotional moments during the climax create an impact.

Technically, we can say the film was great with its cinematography, costume designing, and music. Colors and eye allure seize the audience in visuals, whereas the soundtrack complements the story very well. Performances among the cast members are quite okay, but, being supporting roles, they seem badly utilized and weakly characterized.

Overall the film seems more of a parade and less of a well-written tale.

Plus Points

Lead actress’s performance

Colorful visuals, great cinematography

Crisp music and dance numbers

Emotional Climax

Minus Points

Weak screenplay in the second

Endlessly Predictable

Under-utilization of supporting roles

Final Verdict

Param Sundari is a stylish entertainer that is all about glamour and emotion, proving to be utterly weak in the writing department. Definitely a must-see for people who enjoy strong performance-based musicals, but still flawed.
